Favorite products on the journey?

What are your favorite things to take with you when you are travelling? I mean while you’re sitting in the plane, waiting at airports or the travel terminus?? I must admit to being a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to travel accessories. However, a few days ago I flew to Derby to visit my sister; I left my cludgy old featureless cellphone at home – after all, I was only visiting for 24 hours, so why on earth would I need my phone?? It was inconceivable that I should need to phone anyone.

Hrrmmmpphhhhhhhhh.

Blasted plane got delayed, then was cancelled completely and then the flight was “joined” to the next one. I sat in the departure lounge, waiting for announcements from the airline. However, it turned out that the fastest source of the information was from people who were accessing the airline’s web site through their cell phones. They kept us informed when we would otherwise have been in the dark.

…. Guess what’s going on my birthday present wish list!!

It doesn’t say much from a customer-service point of view that passengers are left to figure things out for themselves. I phoned my sister to delay her arrival at East Midlands Airport – so it didn’t matter a whole lot to me. But, for people who were hoping to catch connections at East Midlands, it could have made the difference between finding an alternative plane – or missing onwards flights to anywhere in Europe. So, BmiBaby isn’t top of my “must use” airlines.

ps – I now understand why people bring cellphones on holiday – and, having seen a program about the cost of cellphones on holiday, I think a product such as the Mobal one could be a great way to travel and be assured of staying connected. I’m off to figure out the call charges. If they’re reasonable, this could be the way to go.
